His head began to nod and he slowly slipped into a deep sleep.
Once again Cyrus found himself roaming the top of that oddly-shaped mountain. If anything, the peak was even more eerily beautiful than he rememberedcold and wild in the light of a blood-red moon. But he sensed danger all around him: in the air, in the treeseyes that sought his death filled the forest like malevolent leaves. He pushed onover boulders and through brush thick with the scent of wild blueberries. Thorns tore at his fur, but couldn't slow him. He was on a quest. He had to find . . . someoneto warn them. But he couldn't remember who. Fear was his only companion. It was the coppery taste of blood in his mouth and the pain in his lungs. It was the nagging voice of terror that drove him on. Terrified? Yes, but of what and for whom? He couldn't seem to remember that either.
